This piqued my curiosity so I googled a bit and learned that this building is in the South Shore, a neighborhood with an abundance of 19th century homes in the style of American Four-Square, Colonial Revival, and Renaissance Revival on suburban sized lots. What did we do before Wiki and Google Maps? :)
This is a picture of the dome of Mosque Maryam in Chicago under the leadership of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. The Muhammad University of Islam is connected to it, but it is not pictured in this photo. "Originally a Greek Orthodox church, purchased in 1972 by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam. The mosque was repurchased and rededicated by Minister Louis Farrakhan in 1988 through efforts and sacrifices of the Nation of Islam and supporters worldwide. It was named Maryam after the mother of Jesus, Maryam (Mary). This is to identify it as a holy place from which men and women come forth reborn and transformed with a renewed mind in service of God to fallen humanity." www.noi.org/national_center.htm

ReplyDeleteWhen the page was loading, at first I thought it was a hammer and sickle on top of the building.
ReplyDeletei didn't know there's this university in chicago :)
ReplyDeleteThat blue sky is the perfect backdrop for this image on the rooftop.
ReplyDeleteYou asked how long the drive was from Little Rock to Wisconsin. It took about 14 hours; we split our drive between two days.
Lovely shot!
ReplyDeleteIs this a new building? I do not recall this one from my days in Chicago when I lived on the South side in Hyde Park. Looks somewhat imposing.
