Cabrini Green, once Chicago's most notorious neighborhood, has undergone some changes starting in 1995, with the
demolition of the housing projects for low-income and welfare residents. The plan was to create a "mixed-income" neighborhood, with rich and poor living side by side. Has it succeeded? Others talk about their own experiences,
past and
present.
I like the color.
ReplyDeleteCabrini-Green had quite an infamous national reputation for awhile. Didn't Mayor Washington(?) move their for a time. I don't know that any long-term housing solution is possible when the problems are societal.
ReplyDeleteIf it succeded, I don't know... but the blue and yellow looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Thank you, Maria Elisa, Clueless and GMG!
ReplyDeleteClueless, it was Jane Byrne who spent a night in Cabrini-Green...
Well, you'd have to report back in a few years!
ReplyDeleteFrom the portal, this picture looked like a game of lego. And no, I am not drinking. I just have a fertile imagination.
When we vacationed in Chicago, we felt like it was EXTREMELY obvious where the poor and the rich lived. We enjoyed the city and felt like we could have stayed a month and still not seen as much as we wanted!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it succeeded or not....were you here when Jayne Burned moved into Cabrini to make a point as to how safe it was to live there? as if!
