Fire engines have come a long way since their horse-drawn precursors. This vintage Chicago Fire Department truck is on display at the Museum of Science and Industry. The horizontal pole on the top is what firefighters held on to as they ran alongside the engine. These were the engines that helped fight the
Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
I love visiting musuems with pieces of history like this. Great photo.
