I found this pretty spotted bug-- I don't know the name of it--here in my garden. They are quite tame and won't maim, cripple, paralyze or dismember you with their strong little jaws if you pick them up.
Yes, that is a grapevine beetle. It lives in thickets, vineyards and woods. The adults feed on the leaves and fruit of grape vines. So you must have or someone has a grapevine in the area.

Indeed, it is good not to be "maimed, crippled, paralyzed or (gasp) dismembered" by insects if you can help it.
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of grapevines in my area, so I should see some of these if they exist in Switzerland. Must pay attention.
Interesting what Abe called it...it has the body type of a ladybug...but it is very hard to tell from the photo how big it is.
