I haven't mentioned our pride and joy yet--beautiful
Lake Michigan, originally called the
Lake of the Illinois back in the 1600's when Native Americans described it as swampy, boggy, and muddy. Well, not anymore thanks to engineering and a whole lot more. We share this Great Lake with Wisconsin, Indiana and of course, Michigan. Here is our little slice of it: 57th Street Beach and the
Promontory Point.
Chicago is definitely one of my favorite cities. And, I spent lots of time on that location when I lived in Hyde Park for 6 years. Brings back wonderful memories! Thanks for the trip!!
ReplyDeleteDo you swim off that beach?
ReplyDeleteToday's photo brings back fond memories. Your city is beautiful and its lakefront is a biking paradise. I hope I can visit Chicago again soon.
ReplyDeleteThis looks nothing like the Lake Michigan I see when I come downtown or drive around it to Michigan!
ReplyDeleteVery peaceful!
Very nice one of my favorite places to go when go to Chicago.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, it looks like you are having a little sandy beach there.
ReplyDeleteThe lake looks serene and inviting, a nice spot to relax and enjoy sunshine and fresh air.
ReplyDeleteI'll come to Chicago later this year and will take a stroll along the lakeside. It is very pretty and blue right there, BlueChic.
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful beach and photo. One doesn’t usually think of solitude and empty spaces when thinking about Chicago. Great shots of your wonderful city.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my NorthBayPhoto blog.
It is a nice lake. Somewhere along the west side there used to be mile after mile of sand dunes. But that was a long time ago and they might not be there now.
ReplyDeleteI also like Lake Superior.

Nice lake has so wonderful colors! ^^
ReplyDeleteI've been to Chicago once (twice?), on very short trips. This lake photo is nothing like what I remember, it's great to have all the variety.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lake, looks so peaceful and relaxing. Thanks for visiting my blog and your kind thoughts for my sister.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever dream of being at the seaside instead?
ReplyDeleteWe, who live all year round on the coast just love to travel inland to the English Lake District, probably as Americans love to visit their Great Lakes.
Thanks for posting on my site. Chicago is definately on my list too! I would especially like to do the Frank Lloyd Wright tour. Chicago has a great waterfront. So does Toronto, but it's completely hidden behind all the high rise condos, so you have no sense of there being a Great Lake until you're standing right in front of it. Poor city planning. I really enjoyed looking at your photos.
ReplyDeletearen't bodies of water interesting?!
ReplyDeleteI love , love, love Chicago...i am so glad i discovered a blog on it ....:)
ReplyDeleteHope to be there again soon :)
