The Robie House. 5757 Woodlawn Avenue. Designed and built in 1909 by Frank Lloyd Wright, called the greatest American architect of all time by the American Institute of Architects. (see his
wiki page).
The Robie House was built as a residence for wealthy bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer Frederick C. Robie. Located in the heart of the campus of the University of Chicago, tours of the house and the gift shop are run by the
Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust.
I love the Robie House! When I was in Chicago on business eight or nine years ago, a friend and I took a tour. Lloyd Wright's architecture is magnificent. There's a house here in D.C. that, every time I drive by it, I think of his prairie style. One day, I'll take a picture and post it.
ReplyDeleteI tried to find your email to send a note about mango leaves. I put the note on my Coral Gables blog. Maybe others might need the information.
ReplyDeleteBeing a short person, Frank Lloyd Wright's homes fit me perfectly. And that window is lovely to see.
ReplyDeleteI like FLW's clean designs, use of natural light and the way he blends a building with its surroundings. I would love to have these windows to look out of every day . . . I'd be interested in seeing more of Chicago's Prairie houses.
ReplyDeleteI've been through here. It is fantastic. We have several homes here in Mckinney that copy his open architecture style. Coincidentally, I just read a bio of FLW. Interesting background and career. Did you know he even designed things like gas stations? I think there is a FLW gas station in Wisconsin or Minneasota
ReplyDeleteHe was very accomplished and prolific. On a much smaller scale, Greenville has a A planter designed by Frank Lloyd Wright
ReplyDeleteThat's a very interesting shot! At first glance, one would think it was some kind of artwork.
