Miegs Field on Northerly Island

This month's theme day is 'water'. This is Merril C. Miegs Field Airport on Northerly Island as viewed from Burnham Harbor. Opened in 1948, the downtown single-strip airport closed on March 30, 2003 under highly controversial circumstances--you can read that story here. Also see other cities participating in the April 'water' theme day and enjoy.

  1. How is the conversion from airport to park going? The city had just started holding concerts on "Northerly Island" before we left Chicago, but we never made it to one there.

  2. wow that is an interesting story! I can't believe the Mayor got away bith it!One can't help wondering what was in it for him personally?(Perhaps I've lived in Africa too long!!! but in fairness, I suspect corruption is a pretty universal plague)
