Great pic BC. Love the guy sitting in the window.
your photos often tell great stories that i don't think people always pick up on. this one is rich with the human condition carrying on its existence in an overblown urban environment. i don't detect any emotions in either character, but i like how their worlds seem so separate despite their proximity. the burghoff sign is also such a great chicago icon. great photo for this blog!
thanks, dan and anonymous
I like this one! And the man in the window alone... intersting story there!
I heard the Berghoff closed, which broke my heart. This photo seems to back that up. Surely if the restaurant were open there would be more than one face in the window. Great faces in this photo.
I've eaten at the Berghoff a couple of times and loved its old world elegance. I was sorry to hear when it closed too.
I'm curious about the Berghoff, too. I heard that it closed, but I walked by it one of the last times I was in the city (just a couple of months ago), and it looked open.
thanks professor, petrea, clueless and mel--The Berghoff has re-opened under the ownership and management of another person in the Berghoff family.
That's good news, b.c. If you get a chance to check it out, let us know (photographically, of course) if it's still the Berghoff we remember!
