Skate Rink at Midway Plaisance

Midway Plaisance, a mile-long linear park designed by Frederick Olmstead and located on the southeast edge of Hyde Park , was the center of amusements for the World Columbian Exposition in 1893. It is the reason behind today's use of the word "midway" to denote the area of state and county fairgrounds where side shows are located. Plaisance is a french word meaning "pleasantness."
