In the Gallery

The exhibit "Through A Glass Darkly," a retrospective of paintings and drawings by Chicago artist Chuck Walker, at the Hyde Park Art Center.

  1. The woman with the cloth over her eyes - I wonder what she is seeing? That's quite evocative.

Annie - that painting is called "Angola/Angola", and Chuck Walker has said he painted it in response to seeing films about African firing squads and to a political situation where the US held back from going into Angola in the late 1980s. On the frame is carved "To the people forced to fight for freedom. To the French who fought with us for ours. To the fighters in Angola who lost theirs without us."

    I work at the Center (full disclosure!) and it's a really amazing show - you should come and see it if you haven't already, and B.C., thanks for bloggin about it.
